Carole Sandner Hall Completion

Author: A. Polotto

Phase I of the Carole Sandner Hall project is nearing completion, with occupancy scheduled for the week of May 16, 2011.  The project included reconstruction of the existing Earth Science Building which involved razing of the existing flat roof additions, selective renovation to the original 6,900 sf two story chapel, and construction of a new 29,550 sf addition.

Selective renovations to the existing Earth Science Building Chapel included removal and replacement of the windows, slate roofing, deteriorated exterior trim, interior walls, ceilings and floor structures, and also included masonry restoration.  The vaulted ceiling was restored with a true plaster finish.

The new addition was constructed with French Architecture detailing as prevalent in the Main Building, Brownson Hall, St. Ed’s and the Presbytery.  The addition is a three (3) story structure with a partial 4th floor used for a mechanical penthouse.  The project also included revisions to the existing A-9 parking lot, and sitework planning consisting of easily navigated hardscape to connect to the center hub of campus, and new landscaping surrounding the building.

Phase II of the project which will start May 23rd, 2011 and extend through August of 2011 will include selective renovations of the adjacent, attached IEI building.  Renovations will include masonry restoration, upgrade of internal mechanical and electrical systems, and interior finish improvements.
