The new Compton Family Center ice facilities are located directly south of the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center at the intersection of Leahy Drive and Angela Boulevard.
The Compton Family Center is a 203,000 square feet two ice sheet facility with a capacity of approximately 5,000 fans, including standing room. The main arena provides a combination of chair back seats, bleacher seating and club seating on two levels. The lowest level of the building is primarily occupied by the varsity hockey operations and program support areas for the team. There is also a weight training facility available for other varsity sports programs on this lowest level. The olympic ice sheet provides bleacher seating for approximately 300. Each ice sheet has four general use locker rooms for campus and community programming of youth hockey, figure skating, broom ball and other programs.
The structural steel frame is complete and the exterior masonry envelope is 100% enclosed with approximately 40% of the face brick in place. Inside the building, masonry partitions are nearing completion and metal stud partition framing is well under way. Substantial completion is scheduled for the fall of 2011.
