Names Changes for Campus Buildings

Author: Carol C. Bradley

A familiar campus building—and one that’s been recently acquired—have new names.

The building commonly referred to as “the Old Security Building,” on the corner of Holy Cross Drive and Dorr Road (between the Burke Memorial Golf Course and St. Mary’s Lake) has been named West Lake Hall. The building will house the Department of Art’s graphic and industrial design programs, Office of Information Technologies’ Communication Services and the TRiO Program, which includes Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search.

On the north side of the building, an old garage was demolished and replaced by a new building that has been named the West Lake Hall Design Studio. The space will house the art department’s industrial design model shop and the School of Architecture’s furniture design studio.

The former St. Joseph High School building on the corner of Angela Boulevard and Michigan Street, recently acquired by the University, will be known as Hillcrest Hall.
