University updates shared with staff at Spring Town Hall

Hundreds of staff members gathered to hear University updates at the Spring Staff Town Hall in the Dahnke Ballroom and Carey Auditorium on March 20 and 21.

The 45-minute sessions began with Executive Vice President Shannon Cullinan providing University updates, followed by Vice President for Institutional Transformation and Advisor to the President Rev. Canon Hugh Page and Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives for Institutional Transformation and Senior Advisor Eve Kelly. The event concluded with health and well-being updates from Vice President for Human Resources Heather Christophersen, who also served as the emcee. 

Cullinan thanked staff members for a successful winter season on campus, including highlighting the University Enterprises and Events employees who served 3,400 meals in just over 30 minutes during Junior Parents Weekend.

Turning to safety, the executive vice president shared his gratitude for the 200 staff involved in the annual large-scale emergency operations exercise that took place this month, and charged all members of the campus community with contributing to a culture of preparedness.

“We have teams that respond to you and rely on you for information [about what’s going on]. If you see something, say something. We need every single one of you,” Cullinan said.

Other updates included insights from feedback provided via the recent ImproveND survey as well as the University strategic framework and campus plan, including the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art and McCourtney Research Building II, both under construction.

Page and Kelly shared updates on University diversity, equity and inclusion collaborations, saying they’re proud to lead efforts to ensure Notre Dame is the “very best version of itself.” Explaining more about the structure of the Office of Institutional Transformation, Page and Kelly detailed their work with DEI officers and committees across campus to strengthen a culture of inclusion and belonging as well as ensure adequate resources are available for these efforts.

Christophersen concluded the program by encouraging employees to sign up for the new Well-Being for Life platform and sharing a video explaining the unique benefits provided by Summus. In addition, attendees got a preview of what’s to come for staff this spring and summer, including a new Self Service Center for Human Resources, Staff Appreciation Night at two South Bend Cubs games and the return of service recognition receptions.
