2013 Major Construction & Renewal Projects

Facilities Design and Operations is pleased to inform the Notre Dame community of the commencement of several significant construction projects.

The Morris Inn
Expansion and renovation of The Morris Inn is continuing in anticipation of a grand reopening in late August 2013.   The construction schedule will continue to require extended work days through completion.   

Roof Replacement Projects
Corby Hall, Sorin Hall, Cushing-Fitzpatrick Hall, Fire Department, Facilities Engineering, and Joyce Athletics and Convocation Center (JACC) will be receiving new roofs this summer, and these projects are under way.

Lyons Hall Renovation
Lyons Hall is undergoing a comprehensive renovation effort this summer as part of the Undergraduate Residence Hall Renewal Plan.  The work includes the replacement of windows, the roof, and restrooms. The building has also been cleaned and tuck-pointed.

Realignment and Widening of Douglas Road
The realignment and widening project is well underway.  The realigned road is anticipated to be opened in mid-August, with landscaping and other site development work to be completed by late fall 2013.

Rugby Field
Construction of this multi-sport athletic field, located on the north edge of campus adjacent to the north D2 parking lot, is expected to be completed by early August 2013.  This synthetic playing surface will be host to the Notre Dame Rugby Club team, and accommodate several other intramural sports and summer sports camps.

Generator Enclosure Buildings
Two new generator enclosure buildings are underway and expected to be completed in July, located at the JACC and between Knott Hall and the Hesburgh Library.

Holy Cross Drive Repaving
Repaving for Holy Cross Drive from the intersection of St. Joe Drive and Holy Cross Drive to the intersection of Dorr Road and Holy Cross Drive is expected to have partial road closings throughout the summer.  Flagmen and signage will be in place to help direct traffic.

Peace Memorial Fountain
Repairs to the waterproofing and drainage systems of the fountain are anticipated to be completed in early August.  Impacts to vehicular and pedestrian traffic are expected to be minimal.

White Field Facility Expansion
An addition to the White Field Facility (aerospace and wind research) is expected to be completed in early summer. 

JACC South Parking Lot Sidewalks
New sidewalks connecting the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center to the Compton Family Ice Arena will be introduced to improve patron safety.  This work will impact access to and through the Joyce lots throughout the summer.  Signage and flagmen will be provided to help guide traffic.

Other Maintenance Projects
Several other projects will also be undertaken this summer including repairs and maintenance to the masonry exterior of the Presbytery, Hesburgh Peace Center, ITC, Mendoza College of Business, JACC, and Melissa Cook Stadium.  Additionally, several facilities will have interior renovations ongoing.
